Production Manager

Detroit Mulch is a leading provider of high-quality mulch and tree disposal center. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Heavy Equipment Production Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our mulch yard.  This leadership role is crucial to ensuring efficient production, maintaining a safe work environment, and meeting our customer needs. 

The Production/Yard Manager is responsible for the safe operation of equipment at a wood recycling facility, including loading semi trucks with a front end loader and filling wood grinding machines with the front end loader. Also, the role will manage the heavy equipment loader operators to ensure efficient operations. 

Responsibilities:

        •       Oversee all aspects of mulch production, including grinding, loading, and stockpiling.

        •       Schedule and manage equipment operations, ensuring all machinery is functioning safely and efficiently.  

        •       Lead and motivate a team of yard workers, providing clear instructions and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. 

        •       Maintain accurate records of production volumes, material inventory, and equipment usage.
        •       Perform pre- and post-operation inspection of the equipment in accordance with Company policy to ensure windows, lights, mirrors and rear view camera are clean.             •            •       Safely and efficiently operate equipment that may include: excavator, grinder, and front-end loader.
        •       Continuously monitor waste or other materials for evidence of unacceptable waste/materials.
        •       Operate a front end loader to load, unload, and transport mulch, wood, compost, and other landscaping materials
        •       Continuously monitor the condition of the equipment to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize down time; clean tracks or wheels on equipment, as needed.
        •       Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring more complicated mechanical issues to Maintenance Shop for repair.
        •       Complete Equipment Condition Report and other reports, as necessary; report any necessary repairs to supervisor, as needed.
        •       Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
        •       Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
        •        Minimum 3 years of experience in a production or yard management role, preferably in the mulch or landscaping industry.
        •       Minimum of 1 year of experience in heavy equipment operation.
        •       Minimum of 1 year of experience working with front end loader.
        •       Strong work ethic, time management skills, and a self-starter

        •       Good customer services skills to meet and exceed customer expectations; acts in a professional, courteous and cooperative manner toward customers and co-workers; works with a sense of honesty and trustworthiness.
        •       Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner.
        •       Good follow through ability; ability to adhere to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise.
        •       Ability to adhere to Detroit Mulch policies and rules set forth; promotes the Detroit Mulch safety standards; does not take inappropriate risks. Maintains a feeling of pride in work; strives to achieve all goals. 

Preferred Qualifications:
        •       Minimum of 1 year of experience in wood grinder equipment operation (e.g. tub grinder, Rotochopper, or Komptech wood shredder).

Shift Hours 

        •       Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm/7pm seasonally

        •       Occasional Saturdays from 8am-2pm
